Rosa Maria Di Maggio

Rosa Maria Di Maggio Rosa Maria Di Maggio has a MSc with honors in Geological Sciences, (volcanology and petrography specialization), at the Sapienza University of Rome. She has over twenty years of experience in the forensic field, gained at the Scientific Police Service of the Italian State Police and later as a freelance. She carried out numerous judicial cases with reference to the analysis of soils, inorganic materials, the analysis of environment, also with remote sensing techniques, including numerous high profile cases and cases of international interest.


She is an expert in the analysis of the crime scene, in the collection of traces and micro-traces of inorganic nature, in the analysis of geological materials, cultural heritage and in the analysis of territory through remote sensing.


She carries out teaching activities on forensic geology and crime scene analysis in Italy and abroad at Universities, public and private, and Law Enforcement Agencies.


She published scientific articles in national and international journals, and wrote scientific contributions for several books dedicated to forensic sciences. She is the author and editor of the first Italian book on Forensic Geology.


She is peer reviewer for international scientific journals in the fields of geology, geo-archaeology, geophysics and materials science applied to forensics.


She was the winner of the Italian Investigation & Forensic Awards 2017, 2019 and 2022, for excellence in Forensic Geology.


Currently, Rosa Maria Di Maggio holds the position of member of the Steering Committee of the IUGS Initiative on Forensic Geology, within the International Union of Geological Science (afferent to UNESCO), with the role of Officer for Europe. Registered in the Register of Experts Witnesses of the Criminal Court of Rome.
